Sunny’s Success (Latest Mayors Column 18 August 2018)

I was honoured to be able to attend the Sunny’s Business Awards last week. The Coffs Harbour Chamber of Commerce does an amazing job giving our local businesses this opportunity to showcase their successes. It was incredible to see the calibre of entrants, and I enjoyed the opportunity to talk with many of the successful and talented business leaders in our community.

It was also great to see 6 Degrees Coworking Hub win the Professional Services Award. 6 Degrees is a Council initiative that has coworking spaces, programs and events that are designed to accelerate startup success and support freelancers of the Coffs Coast.

Congratulations to all the winners, but let’s face it, when you live and work on the stunning Coffs Coast everyone’s a winner!

Sasebo Visit

A delegation from Sasebo will be visiting Coffs Harbour this week to celebrate the 30th anniversary of our sister city relationship. We have enjoyed a close relationship with Sasebo throughout this time and I look forward to showing them our wonderful Coffs Coast.

I encourage you all to come along to a free event at Jetty Memorial Theatre this coming Tuesday from 1 -2.30pm and help us celebrate this special friendship. There will be performances by Seiwa students visiting us from Japan, and students from John Paul College.

OzHarvest

I was delighted to attend the opening of OzHarvest’s new facility last week. Julie Ferguson and her dedicated team of volunteers do an amazing job reducing food waste and redistributing it to those in need in our community.

It is wonderful to see the amount of support that OzHarvest has received from the local business community to continue their important work.

Narranga Turns 50

Congratulations to Narranga Public School on turning 50! It was wonderful to be a part of this special day and see the whole community come together to celebrate. The student performances were amazing, and to see all the smiles – on faces both young and old – was a real pleasure.

Coffs Coast Schools WaterWise

We are very luck here on the Coffs Coast that all of our primary schools have worked hard to become accredited WaterWise Schools.

Karangi and Coramba Public Schools reaffirmed their commitment to being WaterWise recently by undertaking a refresher to identify actions to ensure that they are saving as much water as possible – well done!
