Council is encouraging its senior residents to get out and about in the community with the release of its updated Seniors Transport Guide.

The Seniors Transport Guide is aimed at encouraging senior residents in Maroondah to confidently consider a variety of transport options at a time when they may either be reducing their driving, or are reliant on alternative modes of transport.

Maroondah Mayor, Councillor Nora Lamont said the guide provided information for residents on a variety of transport options available to them.

“We are extremely fortunate in Maroondah to have a range of public and community transport options including buses, trains, taxis and courtesy services, as well as an extensive shared pathway network to enjoy walking or cycling along,” Cr Lamont said.

Written specifically with our older residents in mind, the Seniors Transport Guide provides information on a variety of accessible public and community transport options in Maroondah, including travel discounts, using a myki card and safe travel tips.

“The booklet also provides information on catching public transport, such as trains, buses and trams – something that may be daunting for people who have never used these services before,” Cr Lamont said.

By encouraging the use of varied transport options, senior residents will be able to better maintain their independence and stay connected with work, family, friends and community.

“If you’re an older resident seeking to reduce your driving, or you prefer to catch public transport, or simply want alternative transport options to maintain a healthy lifestyle, make sure you pick up a copy of council’s new Seniors Transport Guide,” Lamont said.

The Seniors Transport Guide is available in hard copy at any of our Service Centres. You can also contact Council on 1300 88 22 33 or 9298 4598 to request a copy to be posted to you.
