Baw Baw Shire Council has secured an $85,000 grant from the Victorian Government to facilitate a review of key planning documents and frameworks.
The project will entail a review on the structure and management of the Warragul and Drouin Developer Contributions Plans (DCP), as well as preparing Council to respond to and deliver infrastructure for future community needs.
The review will involve a multi-faceted approach providing technical, strategic and management advice on DCP funding, as well as the possible introduction of an Infrastructure Contributions Plan (ICP) for Warragul and Drouin, depending on the outcome of the review.
The funding, announced last week, is being provided by the Victorian Planning Authority’s Streamlining for Growth Program. Council will contribute a further $10,000 towards the review project.
Mayor of Baw Baw Shire Cr Joe Gauci said the review will better position Council to accelerate land delivery for housing and jobs, as well as deliver infrastructure for future community needs.
“There will be a strong focus on process improvement in administration including guidance on best-practice methods for relevant planning services”, said the Mayor.
“Ultimately, the review aims to unblock and streamline strategic planning projects. In the long-term, we’re looking at accommodating population growth of approximately 48,000 people and attracting a substantial increase in local employment opportunities.
“This review is an important piece of work for a growth area like Baw Baw. Through the review we’ll strengthen our planning and development frameworks to ensure our Shire’s liveability well into the future.”
Council will engage a consultant with expertise in DCP/ICP management to lead the review. The project will include the preparation of Planning Scheme Amendment documentation.
