Home to world-class health, education and research facilities, with further investment on the way, Liverpool is already a city of innovation.
Now, Liverpool City Council is developing a City Innovation Strategy to help the community realise the benefits of innovation already taking off in institutions like Liverpool Hospital, The Ingham Institute and at our university campuses.
In a few short years, Liverpool will have an international airport on its doorstep, serviced by an Aerotropolis housing advanced manufacturing, aerospace facilities and other educational opportunities.
Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said the strategy would help Council ensure Liverpool remains a liveable city as it grows.
“Liverpool city centre has a cluster of health and education institutions, increasing mixed development, transport options and a technically wired, walkable centre,” Mayor Waller said.
“We have 3000 university students studying in our CBD. Two years ago that number was less than 500. Within five years, it will exceed 10,000.
“Large institutions, such as WSA Co. and Family and Community Services are setting up in Liverpool City Centre. Through its Smart Pedestrian project, Council is gathering data on how people move about the CBD, so it can plan future developments with pedestrians in mind.
“Liverpool is already an innovative city, but with a City Innovation Strategy, we can ensure all these big ideas are geared towards benefiting the community.”
Council is asking residents and people who work in Liverpool for their ideas on innovation through a survey on Liverpool Listens.
