Eurobodalla Council is inviting community feedback on a draft masterplan outlining proposed upgrades to the Gundary Oval District Sports Park at Moruya.
The actions in the plan would bring Gundary to a regional facility standard, as recommended in Council’s Recreation and Open Space Strategy.
A key action in the plan is to construct a new sporting amenities building that two codes could use at the same time. The proposed design incorporates change rooms, canteens, storage, social spaces and public toilets.
Other actions include playing surface refurbishments, field and lighting upgrades, low fencing, and more spectator seating, footpaths and car parking. It also proposes actions for long-term consideration, subject to future demand, such as construction of an indoor sport and leisure centre and additional car parking.
The plan was developed after extensive stakeholder engagement with contributions from soccer, AFL, hockey, touch football and Special Olympics clubs, as well as local schools and the broader community through Recreation and Open Space Strategy surveys.
Actions in the plan are subject to funding being available and Council will continue to seek grants and opportunities to fund its implementation.
Council already has funding for some of the actions in the 2018-19 financial year, thanks to grant and Council funds. These include $510,000 for the new sporting amenities building, $219,285 for sportsground refurbishment and $10,000 for AFL goal catch nets.
The Gundary Oval District Sports Park Landscape Masterplan is on public exhibition for community comment until Wednesday 12 September.
