Rain proved no deterrent for the 4500 people who converged on Railway St on Saturday evening for the second annual Eat Your Heart Out Liverpool.
People from across the region enjoyed great food, music, art and culture under the shelter of a giant marquee.
Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said she was proud to see so many people enjoying one of the main gateways to Liverpool.
“So many people enter our city through Railway St, coming up from the train station,” Mayor Waller said.
“We launched the event last year to celebrate Bigge Park and Macquarie Mall and this year, we celebrated another part of our city centre.
“Saturday’s event was a great mix of entertainment. It was great to see how much the children were enjoying Garden Games and people of all ages were watching dance company Shaun Parker & Co with awe.
“The music was great throughout the event, and I can assure you no one went hungry.”
The event was so well-attended, several of the food trucks ran out of their more popular items.
“We had to make some last-minute changes to the event because of the weather forecast, but the giant marquee and the heaters really added to the atmosphere,” Mayor Waller said.
“We had a few showers, but it all felt quite cosy. I’m so proud that Council staff were able to come up with such a great solution to allow the event to go ahead, despite the weather.
“I’d like to thank everyone who came along and enjoyed the event along with event sponsor, the Liverpool Champion and the staff and volunteers who put so much work into making Eat Your Heart Out such a great success.”
