Nominations open today in the following categories:
Young Citizen of the Year Citizen of the Year Community Project or Event of the YearCouncil’s Australia Day Awards celebrate the achievements and contributions of individuals, community organisations or groups in our region and are announced at our official Australia Day celebrations in January.
Mildura Mayor Mark Eckel encouraged people to think about nominating a person or event they believed deserving of recognition.
“Our Australia Day Awards are a great way to recognise the achievements of people and events in our community, and when you look at previous award-winners, it’s certainly an important and prestigious accolade,” Cr Eckel said.
Council’s latest Australia Day Award winners include Citizen of the Year Denis Ryan, Senior Citizen of the Year Cheryl Barnes, joint Young Citizens of the Year Aleesha Davis and Nicholas Fasso-Opie and Community Event of Year Paws Along the Murray (Sunraysia Animal Rehousing Group).
Potential Citizens and Young Citizens of the Year are people who may have made an outstanding contribution to the community in a voluntary capacity, been an inspiration or role model to the community, or demonstrated a commitment to the wellbeing of others in the community.
In the case of Young Citizens of the Year, nominees may also have demonstrated achievements in the field of sport, academia, or environmental/social responsibility.
Community Events or Projects of the Year will be considered based on their purpose or outcomes, and the impact they have on the community.
