The works, to cost $2.08M, will include the demolition of the existing buildings on the David Street site and the construction of a new sports pavilion, a community room, change rooms and toilets.
The existing pavilion was deemed at the end of its useful life in 2005 and its replacement will provide a modern, purpose-built facility to serve the 10,000-plus players who use the complex every year.
The contract has been awarded to Wodonga-based Connelly Construction Services.
“This work is the result of long-term planning to provide our netball community with the facilities it needs to provide the very best experience to players of all ages and from all parts of our region,” said AlburyCity Deputy Mayor Amanda Cohn.
The Albury Netball Association will contribute more than $500,000 towards the project.
Work is expected to start in September.
Meanwhile, Council has also voted to proceed with an investigation into the redevelopment of the Lauren Jackson Sports Centre.
A Have a Say process will be established to gain community feedback on the proposal and preparations will be made to apply for grant funding for stage one of the project.
