Our recently released Community Perceptions Survey has generated a lot of debate so we have compiled a few Frequently Asked Questions to help.
Q: Who prepared the survey?
A: The survey was prepared by the Local Government Research Group on behalf of the City of Ballarat. Local Government Research Group has been carrying out local government community surveys for more than 20 years.
Together with a growing number of Victorian councils, we have not bought into the State Government facilitated perception survey for the past three years.
Instead we have opted for more meaningful and community-specific survey work. The questionnaire was constructed to meet the strict reporting requirements of the Local Government Performance Reporting Framework.
Q: How were the participants chosen?
A: Telephone interviewing was conducted with a total of 803 people residing in the Ballarat municipality. Interviews were collected between 19 March and 14 April 2018. Landline and mobile numbers were selected at random from a commercially available database covering the Ballarat municipality. The current best practice is to ensure that the sampling frame comprises 50% landline numbers and 50% mobile numbers.
Q: What questions were asked?
The key topics that the survey covered were * Community perceptions indicators * Major project awareness and performance * Events awareness, attendance and performance * Satisfaction with Council services * Communications * Demographics Q: What other councils were our results compared to?
A: Regional councils included in the 2017 survey were: Greater Bendigo, Greater Geelong, Greater Shepparton, Horsham, Latrobe, Mildura, Wangaratta, Warrnambool and Wodonga.
