East Gippsland Shire Council Mayor Cr Joe Rettino has announced the winners of the Mayor’s Poster Challenge.
The challenge encourages young people to design a poster promoting recycling and waste management.
Cr Rettino said young people have a good understanding of the important role managing waste plays in helping the environment.
“There was a great response to the challenge, with fantastic entries submitted from schools across the region.
"I received almost 250 entries which certainly made it a difficult, but enjoyable, job to choose this year’s winners,” Cr Rettino said.
Helping Cr Rettino select the winners was a judging panel with representatives from Sustainability Victoria and Gippsland Waste and Resource Recovery Group.
“We were looking for posters that had a strong message and understanding of a waste issue, were bright and colourful and stood out from the crowd.
"Congratulations to the winners and thank you to everyone who sent in a poster,” Cr Rettino said.
This year’s theme was ‘creating less waste’ and judges were very impressed with the quality and diversity of waste issues explored by the posters.
Prizes, including solar-powered gadgets, art supplies, bags and stainless-steel drink bottles are awarded to the winner and runner-up in each age group.
