The outstanding community service of Broome Shire Councillor, Chris Mitchell, has been recognised with WA Local Government Association Life Membership as part of the 2018 Local Government Honours Program.
Cr Mitchell received the award particularly for his advocacy both for his region and in emergency management.
Broome Shire President, Harold Tracey, nominated Cr Mitchell for the award and says that in addition to serving as a Shire Councillor for 26 years, his contribution to Broome is enormous.
“In addition to Chris’ dedication to local government, he’s made a significant contribution to the community across a range of areas including emergency management, economic development, community service and animal welfare,” Cr Tracey says.
WALGA President, Lynne Craigie, congratulated Cr Mitchell for his contribution to local government and his community.
“Our local communities rely on visionary leaders, and reliable, trustworthy elected representatives to ensure everyone has access to the best opportunities and facilities, regardless of location or the size of our towns and cities,” Cr Craigie says.
“Cr Mitchell has been a strong advocate for Broome and the Kimberley region, as well as displaying passion and dedication for emergency management and health care services.”
