Wellington Shire Council will continue discussions with the Port Albert community regarding the proposed street and drainage works following positive survey results.
The survey was sent to Port Albert residents in March seeking feedback on whether they wanted Council to progress planning for street and drainage improvements in the town.
Of the 177 surveys completed and returned, 79 percent responded that they were in favour of Council proceeding with further survey and design work.
Council will now undertake further survey and design work to determine the cost and scope of road sealing and minor drainage improvements. Council expects to undertake further engagement with the community and direct consultation with each property owner in the first half of 2019.
These discussions will include project cost and whether there is support to proceed further with a project. The formal stages of a special charge scheme would only be pursued if this further engagement resulted in strong community support for a project.
Council’s current Residential Road and Street Construction Plan indicates the need for 70 percent support from participants to be established prior to projects proceeding.
