A new entrance and upgraded roof are among the improvements to Kyneton Library to be funded by a $150,000 grant from the Victorian Government.
The Kyneton Library upgrade project was funded in the latest round of the government’s Living Libraries Instructure Program.
Mayor, Cr Jennifer Anderson welcomed the announcement, which she said would help meet the community’s needs.
“We are so pleased to partner with the government and Goldfields Library Corporation to fund this upgrade and improve the building for all users,” Cr Anderson said.
“Remodelling the entrance so that it faces the playground and improving the area leading to the entrance will make the library more welcoming and accessible for everyone.”
The library’s heating and cooling system will be upgraded along with the roof to make the library a more comfortable community space.
“We want to welcome all of our community into the library and creating comfortable, warm and easily accessed spaces is our number one priority,” said Goldfields Libraries CEO, Mark Hands.
“We love that people come into the library and stay for a while, let their children have a play, catch up with friends and borrow some items or use our free Wi-Fi. Creating a more functional entry and an air conditioned space is the first step in that,” he said.
Council will contribute $100,000 to the upgrade works.
Works are expected to begin in late December 2018 and will be staged to minimise disruption to library users. Staff areas will be upgraded at the same time. These works have already been funded in Council’s 2018/19 budget.
There are four libraries in the shire, which are managed by Goldfields Library Corporation on behalf of Council.
