Are you interested in how Lake Illawarra is managed and can provide advice and support on how to look after this much loved lake? Then we would love to hear from you.

Wollongong City and Shellharbour City Councils are calling for community members from both Council areas as well as scientific advisors to join the Lake Illawarra Estuary Management Committee. As a committee member you will be working alongside Councillors from both Councils, scientific advisors, Aboriginal community representatives, and representatives of State agencies to provide advice on developing a Coastal Management Program for the lake. It is expected that the Committee will meet at least four times a year.

Membership of the committee will be from 1 November 2018 to help with formulating a Coastal Management Program for the lake and estuary.

Applications are due by 17 September and must address the selection criteria that includes knowledge of estuary management issues.

Lake Illawarra lies in Wollongong City and Shellharbour City Councils’ area. The Coastal Management Program will focus on protecting the health of the Lake.

The call for members is for the renewal of the existing Lake Illawarra Estuary Management Committee, which has already undertaken some work on the management program.

For more information, including the selection criteria and a copy of the Committee Terms of Reference, please call the Lake Illawarra Environmental Strategy Officer on (02) 4227 7111.
