Decision Time for Moree-Sydney Air Service

The people of the Moree Plains can expect to know the outcome of the Moree-Sydney air service licensing process by the end of the month, following a number of meetings of the License Evaluation Committee in Sydney last week.

As per the standard process for awarding licenses on regulated routes, Transport for NSW (TfNSW) has conducted the licensing process in two stages. In June 2018 TfNSW called for expressions of interest from airlines wishing to provide air transport services between Moree and Sydney. A total of five expressions of interest were received.

Airlines complying with the EOI were then invited to submit applications for a licence. Applications closed in late July 2018 and were evaluated by the TfNSW License Evaluation Committee last week.

As a non-voting advisory member of the Committee, Council’s General Manager Lester Rodgers attended the meetings and was provided with the opportunity to advise the Committee on the levels of service required by the Moree Plains community.

Following the evaluation of applications and in line with the requirements of the Air Transport Act 1964, a recommendation on the successful applicant will now be made to the TfNSW delegate. It is expected that the process will be finalised in August 2018.
