Waste services offered by the Shire of Augusta Margaret River are being reviewed in order to better suit the needs of the growing local community and achieve more sustainable practices.
The community is being encouraged to have their say on how waste will be managed for the next 20 years at an upcoming interactive workshop scheduled to be held from 4pm to 6.30pm on Monday 13 August in the Margaret River Council Chambers.
The workshop, which will investigate current and future industry technologies, will help to inform the Shire of Augusta Margaret River’s Waste Feasibility Study.
Shire Manager Health Waste and Ranger Services Ruth Levett said participants will be able to provide input into which bin systems and processing options we use as we transition away from landfill.
“The Waste Feasibility Study is nearing completion and this is the last opportunity to be involved in the process before we present proposed models to the community,” she said.
“The changes we make will impact those who live or work in the Shire, as well as visitors and tourists, so we want to ensure we get plenty of input from the community on this important project.
“This workshop will focus on our residential bin systems and how we can maximise recovery without increasing cost and look at local processing options.”
“We will also look at commercial waste and consider ways and means of processing the by-products of local industry.”
The workshop will include a presentation from Adam Johnson of MRA Consulting and Louise Edmonds of intuitearth, followed by an overview of the Shire’s Waste Feasibility Study and residential waste audit.
All are welcome and refreshments provided. Please RSVP by e-mail to [email protected] or at yoursay.amrshire.wa.gov.au
