Locals are invited to inspect the newly refurbished Civic Centre at a Community Open Day to be held on Sunday.

Mayor Darriea Turley said the reopening of the Civic Centre to the public would be a momentous occasion for all residents.

"Reopening the Centre will be a real watershed moment not just for Council, but for our city and its economy," said Mayor Turley

"The setbacks that have been endured during the refurbishment have been extensively documented, so it's going to be incredibly beneficial move past all that and celebrate the Centre's return.

"Broken Hill now has a premier entertainment and conference venue, and we can look forward to all the benefits it will bring to the city."

General Manager James Roncon said he wished to thank everyone connected with the Centre for their patience during the refurbishment process.

"We really want to express our thanks to the public of Broken Hill for their patience while works were underway, Council staff and Councillors certainly shared their frustration when things weren't going to plan," he said.

"We must also acknowledge the support of the State Government who provided $5.06 million in funding through the Resources For Regions funding program to make this project possible.

"They showed a tremendous level of understanding throughout this process, and we're very pleased to repay their good faith by delivering a facility that will arguably be the best of its kind in the Far West.

"We look forward to seeing everyone and having a chat with residents at the Open Day on Sunday."

The refurbishment has retained the original character of the auditorium, while transforming all other aspects of the centre and incorporating the latest audio-video and conferencing technology.

The Civic Centre will be open for inspection between 12pm-4pm on 5 August, and staff will be on hand to answer questions from those touring the facility.

Free non-alcoholic refreshments and light snacks will be provided.

Council wishes to thank the Little Bloom Studio, Pet's Tucker, Lavender Linen, and Pandora's Palate for their assistance in preparing the Centre for the Community Open Day.
