Community grants - now open for applications

If you’re a local community group, sporting club or other not-for-profit body looking for external funding to help bring your special project or event to fruition, Campaspe Shire Council’s Community Grants Program could help you achieve your goal.

Mayor, Cr Adrian Weston said round two of the program is now open, with a total of $120,000 allocated to be distributed through two categories, Events and Community Support.

“The program supports local groups to deliver projects and run events for the benefit of all. Big or small - it’s not the size of the project that’s important. It's the outcome in terms of improving the quality of life of our residents and the social and economic benefits,” Cr Weston said.

For the first time, applications have been moved to an online application system.

“Community groups need to set up a registration, before starting their application,” the Mayor added.

“Once your group is set up, the application can be started, saved, and updated through the online environment.”

Groups can submit one application to the program. Grants range from $1,000 through to $5,000 and are available in the following categories:

Community Support Grants – To support the delivery of programs, projects and activities that benefit residents with amounts available up to $4,000.

Event Grants – To encourage and assist community groups in the hosting of local events, community event $1,000; minor event $3,000; and major event $5,000.

Applications will be assessed against set criteria including economic benefit, project sustainability, community/social benefit and partnerships.

“I encourage community groups to plan their grant application early and not leave it until the last minute,” Cr Weston said.

“Read the guidelines, plan your project, understand what you need to supply, and importantly speak with a council officer, listed in the guidelines, about your application to ensure it meets the guidelines to give it every chance of success.”

Applications close Friday, 21 September. Application guidelines are available through council’s website  including the link to start the application process. Groups needing support through the application process are encouraged to speak with Bobbi Aitken, Economic & Community Development Executive Assistant, 1300 666 535.

Applications recommended for approval will be considered at the November 2018 council meeting. A special ceremony will then be held in December to award the funds to successful recipients.
