Church Street North Cafe Precinct Streetscape Choices

Funded by the NSW Government, the Church Street North Precinct will soon be receiving its upgrade thanks to a grant from the Stronger Country Communities Fund.  The works build on the previous upgrade completed at the end of 2017 with Council again looking for community feedback on the further development of design options. Consultation has concluded on seating and play space inclusions.

Following meetings with the Church Street North Precinct business operators, Council at their request are exploring a further possible option (Option 3) for this area.

These two options are available on Council’s Create Community Engagement Hub.

Option 1 – this option was previously discounted following consultation regarding the inclusion of a play area within this precinct.

Option2: Current Option - Using and enhancing the existing streetscape. The Leopard Trees will be shaped and new surrounds constructed. Box gutter drain removed and single grade pavement from shops to kerb removing hand railing obstacles and providing disability access to most shops.

Option 3: New Option - Pergola improving both shade in summer and sunlight in winter. The Leopard trees are removed and additional, more suitable street trees placed kerbside. A high pergola is installed which caters for umbrellas during establishment. This pergola will house deciduous vegetation and possibly eatable food. Box gutter drain removed and single grade pavement from shops to kerb removing hand railing obstacles and providing disability access to most shops.

The aim of the final layout is to achieve a balance between commercial activity, mobility and general public access.

While it is important to consult directly with those businesses that front the works, the view of the broader community is important so our community is invited to provide feedback via a short 2 question survey on Council’s Create website.  The survey will be available until Monday 20 August 2018.
