The original Lido facility located on the foreshore at Urunga was decommissioned by the Urunga Reserve Trust in 1999 after deterioration of the original structure.

Council has proactively worked over a number of years to develop a feasibility study and then secure grant funding in the amount of $112,000 from the Department of Industry & Tourism under the Tourism Demand Driver Infrastructure Program.  This was matched by an additional $113,000 from Council to complete dredging and foreshore protection works.

The next stage of the project will be managed by Reflections Holiday Park Trust which has received grant funding to complete the project with the reinstatement of boardwalks and swimming platforms within the newly dredge Lido area.

Bellingen Shire Mayor, Cr Dominic King said “Council has been lobbying the State Government for many years to get this great community asset reinstated and spent the initial $30,000 of Council funds on a feasibility study to ensure it became a reality.”

“This new Tidal Pool will be a wonderful addition to the amenities and attractions of the immediate area which include the Boardwalk and the new cycleway network” added the Mayor.
