Significant safety improvements in Pyalong and Clonbinane

The new financial year may be just a month old, but Mitchell Shire Council’s capital works team have been hard at work delivering two significant safety improvements in Pyalong and Clonbinane.

Works at Pyalong Kindergarten have just been completed including sealing the existing car park, installing bollards and line marking. A new concrete path was also laid last financial year.

The $32,000 safety upgrade at the High Street kindergarten was funded by Council as part of its 2017/18 and 2018/19 capital works program.

Meanwhile, two guard rails have been extended by 150 metres along Spur Road in Clonbinane.

The $20,000 project was also funded in Council’s 2018/19 capital works program.

Council has also included $177,000 in its budget for pavement rehabilitation works on Spur Road, which are expected to begin in October 2018.

Mitchell Shire Mayor Rhonda Sanderson said both completed projects would have major safety benefits for the community.

“The safety of our community is paramount and we are always looking for ways to improve safety. That’s why we have committed significant amounts of funding for safety improvements across the shire in our budget and we are always lobbying for external funding to deliver these kind of projects,” Cr Sanderson said.

“The car park works at Pyalong Kindergarten will have many benefits for families who use the facility and will make dropping-off and picking-up children a much safer experience, while the extended guard rails on Spur Road will make it safer for motorists and will help prevent the impact of accidents, should they occur.  

“We’ve worked really hard to boost capital works projects in our rural communities, especially in a rate-capped environment, and it’s fantastic to see these projects completed so early in the financial year.”
