The Ellen Brook Bridge in Ellenbrook / Upper Swan has been officially opened to the public.

City of Swan Mayor David Lucas, Chief Executive Officer Mike Foley and Member for Pearce, Hon Christian Porter, joined Pearce Ward Councillors for the opening ceremony on Friday, August 3.

The project took eight months to complete, cost $6.1 million, and provides an essential transport link for expanding, nearby residential areas.

The bridge was part funded by the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund, which contributed $3 million towards the total cost, matching the City’s contribution. $85,501 was also contributed by the Roads to Recovery infrastructure program.

City of Swan Mayor David Lucas congratulated everyone involved in the project and said the benefits would be felt for decades to come.

“This is a proud day for the City of Swan and every single person involved in this fantastic project,” he said.

“The Federal Government contributed $3 million and this is an excellent example of what can be achieved through collaboration.

“The economic benefits and savings in travel time will benefit the local community and City of Swan for future generations.”

The construction of Ellen Brook Bridge has been one of the City’s top priorities and it will provide an essential link for nearby areas such as Upper Swan and Ellenbrook.

It will help to reduce congestion in the area and create an alternate access point during emergency situations such as bushfires.

Economic benefits of the bridge, primarily driven by travel time savings, are independently estimated at $45 million over a 30 year period.

Federal Member for Pearce, Christian Porter, said that it was fantastic to see the Ellen Brook Bridge become a reality and now officially open.

“The Ellen Brook Bridge will provide an essential link between the fast-growing residential areas to the south of the Ellen Brook and increasing employment areas to the north,” Mr Porter said.

“The opening of the bridge will improve community connections, making it easier for people to get around by reducing congestion and travel times and increasing road safety.

"The City of Swan has worked hard to get this project off the ground and I am happy that I have been able to help them see it become a reality – it’s so great to see the bridge open.”
