Council received a great response from the community when it opened the newly refurbished Civic Centre for inspection on Sunday.
Around 500 people wandered through the centre, chatted with staff and Councillors, and enjoyed delicious catering by Pandora's Palate.
Council's Events Coordinator, Rachel Merton, said staff were extremely pleased with the public's reaction to the first viewing of the centre.
"We were amazed by the turnout, we had a constant stream of people coming through all day and the vast majority of feedback we received was very positive," she said.
"There had been a lot of focus around the things that had gone wrong with the refurbishment, so I think people were pleasantly surprised when they came along and saw what a great Civic Centre we now have.
"I'm certain we now have the best entertainment and convention facility in the Far West, and we can't wait to start hosting events here."
The Civic Ball will be the first major event staged at the centre on August 24, followed by "Always... Patsy Cline" on August 29.
"The bookings and requests have already started rolling in, I think everyone is just happy and relieved the centre is available again," she said.
"And even though the centre has received a $5 million upgrade, we've been able to keep venue hire prices on par with other event facilities around the city, which is important for us."
The Civic Centre now boasts a newly renovated auditorium, fully refurbished bathrooms, kitchens, foyers, and function rooms, and the latest audio-video and conferencing technology throughout.
