Armadale's Kinetic Youth Invited to Speak at Awards
City of Armadale 6 Aug 2018

The Kinetic, a proactive group of local young people from the City of Armadale, was invited to speak at the 2018 Children's Environment and Health Local Government Policy Awards Breakfast on Thursday 2 August.

The local young leaders spoke about the difference they are making in their community, to an audience of industry professionals and experts including the Minister for Local Government; Heritage; Culture & the Arts, and the Commissioner for Children and Young People.

Presenting at this event marks the latest milestone for the group of young people involved in the project, having already participated in workshops and events aimed at improving youth engagement in Armadale, completed a submission as part of the consultation on the City's Draft Armadale Strategic Metropolitan City Centre Structure Plan, and having contributed significantly to the City's annual youth event Artbeat Youth Fest for WA Youth Week, learning vital career and life skills along the way.

Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said that The Kinetic program is one of the City's most important youth engagement projects.

“The power of The Kinetic project is that it is run by young people, for young people, giving them a voice in our community and an opportunity to share their ideas.

“We are immensely proud of our Kinetic participants for being invited to speak at these awards. It is a great opportunity and demonstrates the dedication and effort that these inspirational young people have put into this project.”

The Kinetic is a group of young people aged 13 to 19 years old, representing different cultures, City of Armadale suburbs, backgrounds, interests and experiences. The program enables young people to work together to enact positive change for their communities.

The awards breakfast took place during the 2018 WA Local Government Association (WALGA) Convention.
