New female-friendly change rooms opened at Jack Grut Reserve

Kingston Mayor Steve Staikos joined with the Parkdale United Cricket Club and Aspendale Stingrays Soccer club today to officially launch their new accessible change rooms.

Cr Staikos said Council had used modular design and building for the first time to ensure a high-quality outcome with minimal impact on the clubs and surrounding residents.

“The building was constructed off-site and dropped into place on Mordialloc’s Jack Grut Reserve,” Cr Staikos said. “This meant less construction noise for residents and minimal disruption to the site for the clubs and the community.”

Cr Staikos said the project was part of Kingston Council’s significant ongoing investment to modernise local sporting facilities.

“In the past decade Kingston Council has been investing heavily to upgrade local sports pavilions to ensure they are accessible to everyone and better accommodate female players. We recognise that many local sports facilities, built around 50 years ago when sport was a male-dominated area, simply aren’t accessible for women or people with disabilities,” Cr Staikos said.

The site is home to the Aspendale Stringrays Soccer Club, which boasts 450 members with 36 junior teams, and the Parkdale United Cricket Club, one of the largest clubs in Cricket Southern Bayside.
