Have your say on the Macedon Ranges Planning Scheme review

Published on 07 August 2018

Council is seeking community feedback on the Macedon Ranges Planning Scheme, which is being reviewed to ensure it is up-to-date and provides clear and relevant guidance for the community, businesses, developers and planners.

A planning scheme sets out policies and requirements for the use, development and protection of land, and is Council’s main point of reference when assessing planning proposals for land use and developments.

The review will look at what aspects of the planning scheme are working well, what needs improvement, where there might be planning policy gaps and how these might be addressed.

To help guide these conversations we have put together an Issues and Options Paper. It details current planning matters and how they are currently addressed in the Macedon Ranges Planning Scheme. These are grouped around some key themes:

Environment – looking at biodiversity, climate change, flooding, and environmentally sustainable design Rural land – supporting agricultural landscapes and activities while balancing demand for rural subdivision and tourism Settlement - balancing population needs and prosperity, while ensuring protection of the Shire’s unique features and characteristics Culture and heritage – looking at heritage protection of historic buildings, and acknowledgement and protection of Aboriginal cultural heritage Tourism – promoting tourism as a significant economic driver while balancing impacts like traffic, waste and noise Transport and access – looking at the relationship between settlement planning and access to an integrated transport network of rail, road, walking and cycling.

Residents can provide feedback via an online survey at Your Say, by email to [email protected] or by mail to PO Box 151, Kyneton 3444 by 31 August 2018.
