Moruya Showground work celebrated

The future of the Moruya Showground is looking bright, with an entry road upgrade now complete and more showground improvements on the way.

The Moruya Showground Management Committee on Wednesday hosted a barbecue to thank Eurobodalla Council infrastructure crews for recent roadworks and for recreation services’ collaboration on a new showground masterplan.

Co-funded thanks to a grant from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund and Council, recent works included strengthening and resurfacing the entry road, improving drainage, extra car parking, better disability access, new kerb and guttering, a new pedestrian crossing and directional signage.

The draft Moruya Showground Landscape Masterplan was developed with input from the showground committee, the Eurobodalla District Show Society, user groups, schools and Council staff. It provides an achievable action plan for the showground that balances present and future needs while respecting its agricultural and pastoral heritage.

Eurobodalla Council has already applied for more than $2.8 million grant funding for improvements to the showground, which, if successful, would allow Council to complete almost all of the high and medium actions outlined in the plan.

It’s on top of Council funds already allocated this financial year for showground improvements, including to replace the shared maintenance (storage) facility, install a new fenced enclosure for dog agility training, and construct a new secretary office for event registrations.

Council is also looking to obtain heritage advice to ensure future developments are consistent with the showground’s heritage and agricultural values and enhance the overall look and feel of the site.

The draft Moruya Showground Landscape Masterplan was placed on public exhibition for community comment last month and is expected to be ratified by councillors on Tuesday 14 August.
