Jubilee Pocket park upgrade going ahead minus skatepark

Division 1 Councillor Jan Clifford said the new upgrade will include a small amenities block, additional play equipment such as a flying fox and mouse wheel, 12 new car parks along Jubilee Pocket Road, fencing, footpaths and extra sheltered seating.

“The concept plan for the park, including a small micro skatepark, was put forward to local residents for their feedback during May and June this year,” she said.

“Several concerns were raised by locals who live adjacent to the park about the proximity of a skatepark to their homes.

“When we put the idea forward, we had some very positive feedback about the toilet block, parking and extra play equipment.

“We have listened to the concerns of some residents about the need for a skate park and the issues they presented and have agreed to upgrade the park without a skate facility,” she said.

“We are confident the extra facilities and services in this upgrade will make the Wildlife Road park a place everyone can enjoy.”

The upgrade is being funded by Round 2 of the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland program, with the final list of projects recently adopted by Council.

In more good news for the community, Council last week approved the tender for the replacement of poles and lights along the Bicentennial walkway.

Works will start tomorrow on replacing the 120 damaged lights, at a cost of over $400,000.

Council is upgrading the lighting to solar to overcome past issues with high tides corroding wiring.
