Live life get active in CBCity

The City of Canterbury Bankstown is making it easier for locals to get fit, through its FREE Live Life Get Active program, in partnership with NSW Health.

Mayor Khal Asfour said group fitness classes will be held, Monday to Friday, at the Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre.

"All you have to do is register and then you can start booking into as many sessions as you like," Mayor Asfour said.

"The beauty of this particular program is, everything is free. There are no joining fees or class fees. We want our community to be fitter, healthier and happier."

South Western Sydney Local Health District Director of Health Promotion Services, Mandy Williams, welcomed the partnership with Council.

"Council and SWSLHD are keen to improve the health and wellbeing of residents, and partnerships like these enable us to do something really positive for the local community," Ms Williams said.

"Not only will residents have the opportunity to improve their physical wellbeing, they will also have the chance to interact with other local community members and make new friends."

Mayor Asfour said the Live Life Get Active program complements the vision outlined by residents in the CBCity 2028 10-year Community Strategic Plan.

"Residents have told us they want Council to help the community to be healthy and active," Mayor Asfour said.

"So Council will be working to promote sport at the grassroots level and implementing programs that help address obesity.

"Nearly $34 million will be allocated over the next three years to improve sport, recreation and open space infrastructure to achieve these goals."

Each Saturday throughout the month of August, Council’s Library and Knowledge Centres will be hosting a number of Wellbeing programs:
