The learn to swim program at Kyneton Toyota Sports & Aquatic Centre (KTSAC) has been recognised for its excellence by Life Saving Victoria with a major award.
The centre was named Swim and Survive Licensee of the Year at Life Saving Victoria’s 15th annual Awards of Excellence in Melbourne on Saturday 11 August.
Award judges said KTSAC staff were dedicated to delivering a high standard Swim and Survive program, with water safety messages the key focus. They said the centre takes pride in offering lessons to a vast range of participants, aged from 6 months to 87 years of age, including over 25 primary and secondary schools, kindergartens and child care centres.
Council’s Acting Director Community Wellbeing, Fiona Alexander said KTSAC had been a finalist for the award three years in a row.
“This award recognises our excellent staff and the great work they do in delivering the Swim and Survive program,” she said.
“Using the program they work hard to raise awareness of the importance of water safety education in addition to swimming lessons.”
Swim and Survive is a nationally recognised program developed by the Royal Life Saving Society of Australia and delivered by Life Saving Victoria that seeks to increase the swimming and water safety skills of children in order to prevent drowning and increase participation in safe aquatic activity.
KTSAC learn to swim staff educate on water safety in all situations and locations, from homes to farms, rivers, dams, public pools and beaches.
“We deliver swimming programs to many groups from schools, kindergartens and child care centres and water safety talks delivered before any program begins.”
KTSAC has consistently been recognised for its excellence with many awards, most recently with Aquatics and Recreation Victoria’s Excellence in Customer Service Award.
