A funding application to refurbish the blacksmith workshop in Echuca’s Port Precinct has been approved with a grant of $22,120 announced by Regional Development Victoria.
Mayor, Cr Adrian Weston said council welcomed the funding through the Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund which will allow the workshop to be refurbished to meet the needs of today.
“The funding will allow the workshop to be updated, with a solid fit for purpose floor, heating, cooling, electricity upgrade and water supply, all to ensure it provides a comfortable and suitable working and customer environment,” Cr Weston said.
The $32,120 project will allow the following works to be completed:
Restoration of the counter, floor, electrical and lighting systems; Installation of ceiling fans, shiplap rustic cladding, gas heating and cooling system, and a sink and drainage; Replacement of window and installation of an internal entrance door; and New signage.“The refurbishment will ensure council can support an artisan using the space, particularly given our warm summers and cool winters,” the Mayor added.
“Discussions are underway with an artisan to take up residency and it is hoped an announcement can be made shortly.”
Works will start next month, to be completed by November 2018.
