The City of Albany is calling for volunteers to help plant 22,000 trees and understory plants at Lake Seppings in an effort to re-establish green corridors and urban forests to protect and enhance flora and fauna.

Three community plantings days will be held next month and Environmental Sustainability Officer Mary Holt is encouraging as many people as possible to come along and join in the fun.

“The aim is to revegetate 1.7 hectares over the next two years, allowing the preservation of threatened species such as the Western Ringtail Possum,” Ms Holt said.

“The planting days are a great way to create community conversation and participation, 22,000 is a lot of trees so it would be great to see as many people as possible down at Lake Seppings lending a hand.”

The planting days form part of the City of Albany’s Biodiversity Urban Corridors project funded by the Federal Government’s 20 Million Trees Program.

Community members who would like to participate can attend any of the following planting days at Lake Seppings:

Saturday, August 18: 1pm – 3pm

Sunday, August 26: 10am – 12noon

Saturday, September 2: 10am – 12noon
