Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller is proud to announce that Liverpool City Council is now a White Ribbon accredited organisation.

“We are extremely proud to see our efforts in embracing the White Ribbon message rewarded,” Mayor Waller said.

“Over the last three years, Council has taken active steps to stop violence against women, from raising awareness of the frightening statistics on domestic violence in the community, through to starting a program of staff training and adopting a domestic violence leave policy.

“Through our leave policy and staff training program, Council shows its support for those experiencing domestic violence. It also sends a strong message that domestic violence is not acceptable in our community.”

Liverpool City Council joins 169 workplaces across Australia to achieve accreditation by making a commitment to stop violence against women and strengthen a culture of respect and gender equality.

The program supports organisations to respond to, and prevent, violence against women in a number of ways:

Through supporting women experiencing violence;Holding perpetrators to account;Supporting all employees to challenge inappropriate behaviour; andStrengthening gender equality within the broader community.

“Council has met the accreditation standard, but this is far from the end of our commitment to the White Ribbon movement and to ending the scourge of domestic violence in our community,” Mayor Waller said.
