WGAC redevelopment builder, Building Engineering, have advised Baw Baw Shire Council that the project will be finished on 31 October 2018.
The advice follows a meeting with Building Engineering late last week to discuss the revised program of works and how the job can be accelerated.
Mayor of Baw Baw Shire Cr Joe Gauci said the completion date has been out of our hands and we’ve been waiting on clarity from the builder.
“Building Engineering have expressed confidence in achieving this revised date, and we’re accepting, in good faith, that it will be achieved”, said the Mayor.
“We were previously advised that works would be completed by late August - this date has well and truly come and gone. Without a confirmed program from the builder, it’s been difficult to make any kind of reopening announcement or commitment.
“It’s been frustrating not only for us, but also for our community, to navigate through the unknown. We would like to thank the community, especially those impacted by delays, for their understanding and cooperation.
“Our community deserves to know when the Arts Centre will be once again available to enjoy, and we hope that this latest information will begin to stir excitement for the amazing upgrades that are soon to be unveiled.”
Several community and professional shows will be impacted throughout October, which were previously booked based on earlier advice from the builders with regards to the program’s expected completion. The Arts Centre team has initiated contact with booking holders and audiences to work through alternative solutions to mitigate the disruption to planned events.
Looking ahead, confirmation of the date will now enable plans to progress for the reopening. More details about this will be released in due course.
