Our region is fortunate to have so many wonderful community members who contribute to making our region a better place, and what better way to acknowledge their efforts than by nominating them in the 2019 Livingstone Shire Australia Day Awards!
With nominations officially opening today, Council is encouraging residents to put forward someone they believe deserves recognition for their involvement in the community.
Australia Day Award’s Committee chair Councillor Nigel Hutton said these annual awards celebrate the achievement and contribution of outstanding community members who work tirelessly to improve our region for everybody.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to recognise and show appreciation for those who contribute selflessly to the community through numerous avenues such as sporting clubs, environment, arts and more,” Cr Hutton said.
“It is important to acknowledge members of our community who go above and beyond, who rise to challenges with which they are faced and promote a positive outlook on life.”
The 2018 Citizen of the Year, Marlborough’s Danielle McKenzie said her experience since receiving the award had been heart-warming and humbling.
“It’s been really great to participate in local events and meet new people, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all of that, but I also hope my story inspires other people to get involved in their community,” Mrs McKenzie said.
“People should know they can make a difference in lots of different ways, big or small. And it doesn’t matter if you’re a parent or work or have other commitments, every bit helps in being part of the solution.
“I really enjoy giving back and just watching the community grow and develop, and I’d love to see more of the younger generation getting involved as well.
“I strongly encourage the community not to wait in the hope someone else will get around to it, and nominate somebody special they believe deserves the recognition for making our region the amazing place that it is.”
Awards will be presented in the following categories: • Citizen of the Year • Young Citizen of the Year (25 or under as at January 2019) • Community Service Award • Cultural Award • Senior Sportsperson of the Year • Junior Sportsperson of the Year • Administrator of the Year • Environmental Award
