Mayor Tate chasing ‘smart jobs’ for health precinct

The Gold Coast’s Health and Knowledge Precinct took centre stage in Taiwan today – with Mayor Tom Tate encouraging leading bio-medical companies to invest in our city.
“This precinct at Parkwood is the future of our smart-jobs economy,’’ said Mayor Tom Tate.
“We are taking the precinct on a roadshow so the leading Taiwanese bio-medical and health companies know we exist, and what we have to offer.
“I was delighted to see the top 12 firms from Taiwan in the room, taking on board what we have to offer. If we manage to convert this presentation into future partnerships, it can mean hundreds of jobs for our city, and the financial flow-on effects of that investment.’’
GCHKP Project Director Di Dixon outlined the value of the precinct, with its links to Griffith University, private hospitals, IT connectivity through our fibre optic cabling, existing medical research companies, accommodation at the former athletes’ village and the light rail.
"GCHKP is a 200hectare emerging health and knowledge precinct already employing 10,000 people including 1000 researchers,” she said.
“There is a real base of expertise particularly in biomedical research, 3D design and prototyping and clinical trials.
“It’s important to build on our Sister Cities relationship and leverage potential opportunities for Taiwanese companies in areas such as advanced design for medical parts and implants.”
