One of the highlights in the year-since Councillors took office has been the establishment and success of the Snowy Monaro Youth Council.
The Youth Council brings together young people from across the region, who discuss issues pertinent to people their age, and present Council with this important perspective.
Councillor James Ewart has done a fantastic job chairing Youth Council meetings, and the youth councillors themselves have been wonderful advocates for our region. With their one-year term almost complete, Council is calling for nominations for the next Snowy Monaro Youth Council.
If you’re between 12-24 years-old and are enthusiastic about promoting the views of young people in our region, then the Youth Council is for you. Application forms are available at all Council offices, libraries, and on Council’s website. Applications close on Monday 1 October.
From next week, Cooma residents will receive their new 360L recycling bin. In further efforts to help residents recycle more effectively, the 360L bins will provide an easier and more convenient way of disposing of all recyclables.
Residents have the option of retaining their current 140L/240L recycling bin by completing an application form. These have been distributed to residents receiving a domestic kerbside collection. The forms can be completed and returned to the Cooma Council office within the next fortnight.
This Thursday, Councillors will meet for the first meeting of the month. The meeting will be held in the Cooma Council Chambers from 5pm. It will be webcast for those unable to attend.
Have you registered for this year’s Garage Sale Trail? Last year 54 households across the region held garage sales on the same weekend, and come October 20 and 21, it’s hoped even more households sign up. Hundreds of locals grabbed a bargain in 2017 with the event a fantastic opportunity to buy, sell and swap pre-loved items.
To register for the Garage Sale Trail please visit the following address www.garagesaletrail.com.au/register.
Keep an eye on Council’s website for further information, and maps of registered garage sales, closer to the event.
