Council has reinforced its commitment to advance our economy, attract investment, and improve our community’s lifestyle after endorsing the Capricorn Coast Smart Region Strategy at an Ordinary Meeting last month.

To celebrate its adoption, a business networking event was held on Monday evening to officially launch the strategy at Yeppoon Town Hall.

The strategy has been in the planning stages since December 2017, established to provide an overarching "smart" scope of strategic initiatives and understand the key digital drivers and trends of the Capricorn Coast Region.

Livingstone Shire Council Mayor Bill Ludwig said the Capricorn Coast Smart Region Strategy will benefit the local community, business and industry through digital experimentation, innovation and immersion in new ways of working.

“This strategy will assist the Capricorn Coast region to evolve as a smart region while increasing its economic viability and longevity,” Cr Ludwig said.

“During the extensive consultation period earlier this year during the development of the plan, the community’s online survey response was significant, and received a high amount of positive feedback. This feedback is reflected in the four key themes of the Strategy, for our region to be innovative, sustainable, engaged and data driven.

“Council is grateful for the Australian Government’s funding of $20,000 towards this initiative under the Building Better Regions Fund which enabled the engagement of Smarter Technology Solutions to assist in the development of the strategy.”

Deputy Mayor and Council’s Digital Economy and Innovation Champion Councillor Nigel Hutton said the Smart Region Strategy will identify opportunities for Council to support business and industry to embrace the digital economy and new technologies, and transition traditional industry through innovation by building capacity and capability.

“The project seeks to develop innovative strategic partnerships with key stakeholders to deliver a number of smart region outcomes including economic stimulus and social well-being,” Cr Hutton said.

“Council is extremely proud to be providing this opportunity for a smarter, brighter and innovative future to our community as we continue to move forward into the digital age.”
