Little Charlies launch world record bid

It’s part of AlburyCity’s upcoming Charlie Chaplin Festival which will celebrate the life and times of the iconic star of the early days of Hollywood.

The festival will include an exhibition of Chaplin memorabilia at the LibraryMuseum – the first time this exhibition will be shown in Australia.

During the program, a Chaplin impersonator will roam local streets, sporting Charlie’s iconic bowler hat, moustache and cane.

AlburyCity Mayor Kevin Mack said the event is expected to attract Chaplin fans from around the country.

“This festival buys into the trend of celebrating cultural icons such as Marilyn Monroe and David Bowie, and by doing so we hope to attract collectors and fans of this giant of early cinema to enjoy not only the festival but also the wider attractions of the region in spring,” he said.

A headline event will be the world record attempt on Saturday 13 October.

“To write Albury’s name into the history books, we’ll need more than 663 correctly dressed and verified ‘Charlies’ to gather at QE II, so the community, including school groups, will be encouraged to don historically-accurate costumes on the day,” Cr Mack said.

A gala launch and first look at the exhibition, Capturing Charlie: Collecting a Cinema Icon, will be held at the LibraryMuseum on 21 September.
