City of Swan Councillors joined local basketball group Kaat Koort n Hoops (KKnH) at Swan Active Midland on Tuesday evening to test out their on-court skills and learn more about the innovative sporting program.
Kaat Koort n Hoops is a community-led basketball program for young children aged 4-14 years, which builds the capacity and skills of at-risk young people in the City of Swan through basketball.
Beyond the court, the program aims to develop confidence and improve social, physical and emotional wellbeing in the children who participate.
City of Swan Mayor David Lucas said the City of Swan has proudly supported the program over many years.
“In 2017, the City entered into an agreement with Koya Aboriginal Corporation to support their KKnH program through partial funding of their participation and court hire fees,” he said.
“This invaluable program is actively working towards making a difference in the health and wellbeing of some of our most health-disadvantaged community members, and we are proud to support such an initiative.
“I’d like to thank the program organisers for their hard work to date, and wish them every success in continuing this vital program in the future.”
Pearce Ward Councillor Patty Jones said it was great to see the program in action.
“It was great so see such a fantastic turnout of young athletes on Tuesday evening,” she said.
“Everyone was having a great time together, and it was certainly entertaining to see some of the Councillors shooting a few hoops alongside the kids.”
