Council has postponed this weekend's Volunteer Expo and Tree Giveaway to better accommodate volunteer groups, staff, and the wider community.
Council was initially planning to hold the two events together on September 8, but has now set a new date of September 22.
Council's Chief Operations Officer, Anthony Misagh, said the decision to postpone the events was reached due to a number of factors.
"We put in a massive order of 1650 plants for this year's giveaway, and we only received confirmation yesterday that the plants should be arriving tomorrow," said Mr Misagh.
"Providing the plants arrive on time, that would leave us with less than 24 hours to have everything ready for the giveaway, and that window is a bit narrow.
"Then at last night's Volunteer Awards we had volunteer groups still making enquiries about being part of the Volunteers Expo.
"We don't want anyone to miss out on the Expo, and we're facing a tight turnaround on our plant delivery, so we feel it was a common sense decision to push things back a little."
Mr Misagh said Council considered shifting the event to September 15, but settled on September 22 to avoid a clash with the Silver City Show.
The Volunteers Expo and Plant Giveaway will now be held from 9am - midday at the Civic Centre on September 22.
"The Expo will be a great opportunity for locals to come along and learn about all the services volunteer groups in the city provide," said Mr Misagh.
"If anyone has an interest in volunteering they should definitely come along and have a chat with the stallholders.
"And the Plant Giveaway is always an extremely popular event, and with 1650 plants to give away this year we hope to make a real impact in helping locals green their city.”
"We look forward to seeing everyone there."
