Stress Less in the Park is an ongoing community event organised by the Mental Health Central Australia Health Service in Alice Springs. This year, for the first time, it was held in Tennant Creek at Peko Park, and schoolchildren and residents all came down to socialise, find out what's available, watch the TC Dance Crew perform, taste delicious scones made by Karen's Kitchen and enjoy a sausage sizzle. A number of local health, wellbeing and social service providers were at the event to show the services that are available in Tennant Creek, which can assist and support those with mental health concerns. Pam Acres, from the Stress Less in the Park Committee, said the event allows the stigma around Mental Health issues to be lessened, and promotes positive mental health and social and emotional wellbeing to the wider community. "Our aim is that this event encourages early help-seeking and removes shame and stigma from mental health issues. Empowering people with the knowledge that support is available is so important," she said.
