Bellingen Shire Council recently partnered with NorthernAgri Services and NuFarm to run a Fireweed Information Day for twenty five participants.  Council’s Invasive Plants Officer and Invasive Plants Inspector gave a presentation on our activities to control Fireweed in the Shire, particularly on the Dorrigo plateau. Matt Moyle from NuFarm gave examples on the best way to manage Fireweed on private property.

Bellingen Shire’s Mayor, Cr Dominic King, said, “Council has recently completed Fireweed control on all roadsides of the Dorrigo plateau, and will continue this work along Waterfall Way through to the Pacific Highway. With the significant Fireweed season that is occurring this year, Council encourages all landholders to join the fight to control this weed by attacking infestations on their property.”

In addition to those already active in the Shire, several new local commercial operators are available to assist landholders with Fireweed control.

Cr Dominic King continued, “If you need any advice on how to control Fireweed, or are interested in contacting commercial operators to assist with Fireweed works on your property, please contact Council’s Invasive Plants Officer on 6655 7300.
