Campaspe Shire has had its most successful year yet with five community groups named as state finalists in the Keep Victoria Beautiful Tidy Towns – Sustainable Communities Awards.
Mayor Cr Adrian Weston said the awards recognise the contribution of regional communities to protect and enhance the environment.
“It is fantastic to see groups within our community formally acknowledged for their concerted effort in making our environment more sustainable,” Cr Weston said.
Campaspe State finalists are:
COMMUNITY ACTION & LEADERSHIP AWARD (POPULATION ABOVE 3,000)

In addition to the five groups being named state finalists, a further two local projects were also recognised at a regional level:
Lockington Consolidated School for their initiative ‘We all recycle at Lockington’ for the Active Schools Award Campaspe Shire Green Team for their initiative to improve council’s sustainability for the Environmental Sustainability AwardThe Keep Victoria Beautiful Tidy Towns – Sustainable Communities Awards celebrate positive contributions made by regional communities to protect and enhance the environment. They encompass an array of initiatives including litter prevention, recycling, protection of the environment, preserving heritage, community action and leadership, and environmental sustainability programs.
“Council has participated in these awards for more than ten years and we are proud to have dedicated groups committed to making our environment a better place to live,” Cr Weston said.
“Congratulations to all seven regional nominees and best of luck to the five who have moved on as state finalists.”
All seven regional nominees will be presented with certificates at a regional presentation held at the Echuca Library on Monday, 10 September.
State winners will be announced at the state awards in Beechworth on Saturday, 13 October.
