As part of White Balloon Day, local school students will create chalk murals or drawings using the hashtag #ChalkItUp as a statement of support for kids. Each artwork will feature a white balloon as a symbol of hope.
“The abuse of children is an abhorrent crime that should never be swept under the carpet,” said AlburyCity Mayor, Kevin Mack.
“It’s up to us all to stand united in support of kids so that every child feels safe at all times so I urge everyone to not only join this symbolic statement on Friday 7th September but to also speak out against harm to children wherever it occurs.”
Police, health service officials, charities and children’s champions attendws White Balloon Day at QEII Square on 7 September.
Balloons were released at 12.20 pm. All proceeds from a sausage sizzle went to Bravehearts.
