One of China’s largest mining logistics companies is looking to set up its Australian headquarters on the Gold Coast, following a visit from Mayor Tom Tate to Chengdu.
Yahua International Group, with 5000 employees world wide, has already bought a mining drilling and blasting operation based in Yatala.
Mayor Tate met with Group President Xin Gao to outline the benefits of our city.
“The upgraded M1 and proximity to two international airports is a huge advantage as it allows the company to move its product quickly and seamlessly,” said Mayor Tate.
“The Group President also saw an advantage in the Coast’s residential housing market being more attractive than Brisbane, and the broader lifestyle and commercial leasing costs in areas such as Southport.
“If we can get this decision to go our way, there will be hundreds of new jobs on the coast and an anchor tenant like Yahua in our city. The current focus is Southport but the decision will rest with the company itself.”
The Gold Coast is working towards establishing a formal Sister City agreement with Chengdu, with a signing likely in 2019.
