The City of Albany has secured an $11,246 grant from the WA Police State Graffiti Funding Program to upgrade the City’s graffiti reporting software and increase community awareness.
The Goodbye Graffiti Campaign will run over a 12-month period and provide information to property owners advising them on how to report, remove and make their property less attractive to vandals.
The campaign will also provide information and instructions on what to do if you have been a victim of graffiti as well as how to make a report to police if you witness someone ‘tagging’ a building. Rewards will apply for reporting graffiti vandalism.
City of Albany Senior Community Development Officer Tammy Flett said the program would roll out in time for the summer school holidays.
“We generally have a spike in incidents of graffiti during school holidays and encourage property owners to report graffiti to police and remove it as soon as possible,” Ms Flett said.
“If graffiti is removed quickly, it is less likely that the property will be targeted again.”
If you have been a victim of graffiti we encourage you to report it to Goodbye Graffiti on 1800 44 22 55 or www.goodbyegraffiti.wa.gov.au Free Graffiti removal kits are available from the Albany Public Library for reported incidents.
