Calling all Skate or Scooter Kings and Queens
City of Armadale 10 Sep 2018

Local young skateboarding and scooter enthusiasts are encouraged to enter the popular King of the Hill Skate and Scooter competition which returns to Roleystone Skate Park with the first qualifying heat on 27 September.

The Roleystone qualifier will be the first of four qualifying rounds ahead of the final to be held at Belmont Skate Park during WA Mental Health week on 13 October.

King of the Hill is a skate and scooter competition for young people across the South East corridor where participants compete for the title of ‘King of the Hill,’ prizes and cash in their divisions, by wowing judges and the audience with their skills and tricks.

The skate series aims to increase awareness of the support services available locally for young people and to help break the stigma around mental health.

City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said the March competition attracted 42 competitors who showcased heart-stopping moves, to the more than 200 people who came to show support and watch the heats.

“At its core the competition is about bringing young people together and letting them know there are support services and an entire community that is available for them if they are having a tough time.”

“This is a pivotal period in many young people’s lives and sometimes it can be overwhelming. It is so important that we let them know they are not alone, and we are here to help.

“We hope aligning the competition with WA Mental Health Week this year will promote the mental health discussion among our young people and encourage healthy lifestyles and a strong sense of community.”
