Work is progressing on the East Gippsland Shire Council project to extend the Metung Boardwalk by 325 metres from Riviera Nautic to the corner of Rosherville Road.
Current work is near Rivera Nautic where contractors are replacing a failing timber retaining wall using pre-fabricated concrete panels and steel piles.
A partial closure of the southbound land of Metung Road and a pedestrian detour are in place. The majority of work will be completed from the water to reduce the impact on the lake edge and avoid any need for extensive vegetation clearance.
The $1.015 million project is being undertaken by local contractor Jarvis Norwood, and it is anticipated the work will be complete in time for summer visitors to Metung to enjoy the extended walk and for residents to use year-round.
The project is funded by council and the Victorian Government and was identified as a high priority in the Metung Nungurner Community Plan as it provides a safe pedestrian connection from the end of the current boardwalk to Chinaman’s Creek.
