Maroondah senior residents will be treated to a variety of programs and activities in October as part of the annual Seniors Festival 2018 calendar of events.

Now in its 36th year, the Victorian Seniors Festival is a state-wide celebration of seniors – it’s also a great time to celebrate ageing well across the City of Maroondah.

Maroondah Councillor and Council representative on the Maroondah Community Wellbeing Committee Samantha Mazzuchelli said the festival experience is all about getting out and about in the local community.

“The annual Maroondah Seniors Festival recognises the achievements and contributions of older people within our community by offering a diverse, exciting, and enjoyable program of events supported and provided by local seniors’ clubs, groups and services,” Cr Mazzuchelli said.

“The month-long celebration offers a whole host of exciting attractions and activities for fun, pleasure and the chance to try something new or different in a friendly atmosphere, at little or no cost.”

Cr Mazzuchelli said the program had been carefully developed to include a variety of events and activities that catered for beginners keen to give something new a try, or for those with more experience.

“The festival highlights the benefits of ageing well and staying active, healthy and involved in the community,” Cr Mazzuchelli said.

“If you’re wanting to keep active and improve your fitness, the festival program has a series of low-cost classes, including supervised low-impact gym training, group fitness and swimming at Aquahub and Aquanation. Shared programmed activities with others of a similar age are not only fun, but will help keep you active as well as staying motivated.

“Also, Ringwood Movie Makers is again offering a free program of short movies by its members in celebration of this year’s Seniors Festival. So, why not head along and enjoy an evening of free entertainment, with refreshments provided.

“Maroondah City Council is proud to again provide an exciting, jam-packed program of Seniors Festival events and we encourage you to take part in as many as possible, and enjoy the celebrations,” Cr Mazzuchelli said.

A Seniors Festival program guide is available free from all Council offices, local libraries, community houses and seniors’ venues, and is also free to download from Council’s website.

Included in the 2018 program are education and information expos, training courses, craft classes, health and wellbeing sessions, fitness and exercise programs, outings and special events, and more.
